Every high school sports team enters each season with one goal in mind. They work hard and compete all season to win a championship. While not every team can win a championship, the ones that are able to, like Alexsis Hernandez, cherish it.
“The highlight of my career so far is definitely winning state last year,” Hernandez said. “I got to catch every game and I loved every second of it. Seeing not only how hard my pitchers worked but the way the whole team came together to get that trophy at the end is such an amazing unforgettable moment for me. I can only hope to do it again this year.”
Alexsis is a senior at Southmoore High School. She plays catcher for the softball team, a sport she has played since she was five years old.
Throughout her life and athletic career, she has had a variety of people that have influenced her life. But she says that there are a couple of them that have made the biggest impact on her.
“My mom is my role model,” she said. “She had me when she was sixteen and has given up a lot for me and my siblings. She always pushes me to be my best every day. Everything I do is for her. Also, my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Gouge, really influenced me. She taught me to always be true to myself. She reminded me that I could do anything I put my mind to and to never quit on my dreams.”
Hernandez has put in a lot of hard work and time to get to become the player she is today. She says that always trying to be your best at all times will get you where you want to go.
“Striving for perfection has taken me far,” she said. “Every time I step on the field I strive for perfection, not only for myself but for my teammates. It also has taken a lot of sacrifices, hard work, and motivation. It’s not always easy but the coaches I have been blessed with have definitely helped me come this far and hopefully continue to help me in the future.”
