Southmoore High School junior Abby Cowell said the Sabercat volleyball record doesn’t currently reflect their abilities on the court.
“We’re 2-7, but it’s already such an improvement over last year,” Cowell said. “Morale in our program is incredible, being a player in this environment, in this family, is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. This year we’ve played teams so much closer than before, and we’re still continuing to get better. I’d say this season has been huge strides and I can’t wait for the second half.”
Cowell is an outside hitter for the Sabercats, and she said she fell in love with volleyball at the age of nine and has been playing competitively ever since.
“I fell in love with it because of the feeling of being on the court with an entire team behind you,” she said. “I love the way I feel on the court when I know I’m completely myself and in my element.”
If she’s not at school, volleyball games and practice, or work, Cowell said she likes to read a lot, watch Disney movies, or just hang out with her family and friends.
“I want to thank my parents for being the best support system,” she said. “And my teammates and coaches for giving me a family I know I can always turn to.”
