The defending Class 6A State Champions, the Southmoore SaberCats, believe they have everything it takes to go back-to-back. With one of the best pitchers in the state returning, a solid group of underclassmen, and players that understand what it means to play a role and do it to the best of your ability, this team could be poised for their fourth title in nine seasons.
Brinly Maples is returning for the SaberCats after having one of the most dominant post-season runs in recent history. “(Brinly) was undefeated in the circle for us last season. Pitched every pitch in the state tournament,” head coach Jason Lingo said.
With a player with that much dominance and experience, success will come. Coach Lingo has high hopes for Kaylee Carter as well. Carter is an underclassman with less experience, but that shouldn’t matter. Coach Lingo believes she will shock a lot of people after having a very promising offseason, working very hard day in and day out.
Abi Jones is impressive as well and coach Lingo has been very impressed with how she plays her role and works at getting better every single day. He thinks that Jones could have a big year on the field. Presley Main is another player Southmoore will look to for big plays this year in the field and at the plate. The roster is full of players capable of having big moments in any contest.
