The Sabercats posted the most wins since 2016 finishing with a mark of 6-6 in 2025. The Cats were also able to win a first-round playoff game in Ponca City before being eliminated the following week by Stillwater. That was in 6A-Division-II. Southmoore has been bumped back up into the state’s largest classification and first-year head coach Bryan Freeman is ready for the challenge. Freeman knows a thing or two about football in the area, graduating from Westmoore and serving as the interim head coach in 2024 at Southmoore. He served as offensive coordinator last season and doesn’t plan on changing a whole lot on offense. The Sabercats are committed to running the football. “The guys we have are excited and we are ready to go,” said Freeman.
Taven Hayes, a two-year starter at quarterback, has moved to Noble where his father will be on the coaching staff. Junior Steven Hernandez got some spot reps behind Hayes a year ago. He will battle with sophomore Kadyn Dailey to call the shots for the offense. Tylenn Diggs (6-0, 185, Sr.) and Lance Lingo (5-10, 165, Sr.) are the top returning playmakers for the offense. Diggs rushed for 1,100 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior and improved his speed after running track for the first time in the spring. Lingo operates out of the slot and has great lateral movement and can make the opposition miss in the open field. Southmoore scored 40 points or more 4 times in 12 games last year. Rebuilding the offensive line will be a key focus in the fall as the Sabercats gear up for competition in the state’s largest class.
Aaron Crawford comes from Chickasha to coordinate the defense. Southmoore will base out of a three-man front but will be multiple in nature. Diggs and Lingo are too good to keep off the field. Each will see time on defense as well as their offensive duties with Diggs at safety and Lingo at corner. Asher Wishon (6-3, 235, Jr.) brings the pressure off the edge at defensive end. Kannon Kannaday (6-1, 235, Jr.) is a big addition to the defense after missing most of last year with an injury. Kannaday has a great motor and brings enthusiasm to the defensive efforts. Southmoore has a good core of young players to build from and kicks things off against Bishop Kelley, a first-time opponent and Piedmont who the Sabercats split with the past two seasons. Next comes the battle for Moore Public Schools supremacy, with the Sabercats looking to make it two in a row over Westmoore.
