Graduating high school from Westmoore then attending the University of Oklahoma, Lana Echard is now a dedicated high school teacher at Southmoore High School lending her talents to mostly sophomores at the high school.
Having taught at the high school since 2008 Lana has taught a wide variety of subjects including, Oklahoma History, honors Oklahoma History, International Studies, AP European History, World History, and her favorite AP World History.
“My students are my favorite thing about teaching,” Lana said. “Even when the job is challenging, the relationships you build with students make it all worth it.”
Not only is Lana staying busy in the classroom, but you will also catch her outside of the classroom sponsoring the senior class, Model United Nations, as well as Youth and Government.
“I get my inspiration for teaching from my students and my colleagues,” said Lana. “I am very fortunate to work with some amazing teachers, especially my two “next-door neighbors” at my school who also teach social sciences. They have the same motivations and love for education that I do, and they’re very creative. When you surround yourself with exceptional people, you strive to be better.”
In her free time Lana is a dedicated dance and pom mom to her two amazing daughters who she shares with her husband of 23 years, Doug. She also enjoys reading as well as watching and attending sporting events. Lana uses her summers to rest up and recharge for the upcoming school year while also attending professional development workshops and trying to travel when she gets the chance.
