Southmoore High School student and soccer player Ingrid Avalos started playing soccer with her cousins at a young age during family get togethers. Soccer was a way for her family to bond with each other. Soccer isn’t just a sport for Ingrid.
“Soccer brings a sense of normalcy despite all the craziness in the world,” Ingrid said.
Ingrid is a junior at Southmoore High School, and she is on the weapon line in the Cologuard. In soccer she holds the position of defensive left back, which she really enjoys.
“I like that I don’t always have to stay back, there is also more freedom to go up the field and attach,” Ingrid said.
Making sure to stay on top of her schoolwork and still perform well in her extracurriculars is an important balancing act for Ingrid.
“I balance life and school by making a lot of to-do list,” said Ingrid.
Staying positive and motivated is a key part of any student-athletes daily struggle and Ingrid is no exception.
“I stay motivated when times are tough by thinking the difficulties I face are temporary,” Ingrid said. “There is always a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Her inspiration to work hard every day comes from her amazing mother.
“I look up to my mother,” said Ingrid. “She is the strongest person I know, and she always gives me great advice.”
Ingrid grew up with an older brother and her mother. Her mother has always worked very hard to provide for her and her older brother. Recently however Ingrid got promoted to big sister and she could not be more excited.
In her free time, you will see Ingrid watching movies and just enjoying some down time and relaxing which is the opposite of her normal schedule.
After high school Ingrid has plans to attend college and to become either a chiropractor or acupuncturist.
