VYPE: What are your goals for yourself and your team this season?
Sydney: About this time last year, I tore my ACL and had surgery on my right knee so my goal for myself is to continue the process of getting back to where I was before my injury and to enjoy my senior season. My goal for my team is to make the playoffs and advance as far as we can.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
Sydney: We beat Westmoore and Moore to become City champs this year. This is the only time we have accomplished this while I have been at Southmoore.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade or coach and why?
Sydney: Coach S has been one of the greatest coaches I have ever had. She has always had faith in me and encouraged me on and off the field. She has taught me many things such as resilience and hard work that I will take with me in the future.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Sydney: My junior year I scored my first varsity goal against Moore. It put us up 1-0 allowing us to win the game.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Sydney: Kenzie, one of my former teammates who is a grade above me, has left the biggest impression on me. Although we were not very close when we played together, her confidence and composure on the field, positivity, and the way she balanced academics and athletics off the field always inspired me.
VYPE: Who on your team has the best impression of your coach and who says the funniest things during games?
Sydney: I think that everyone on the team has their own unique sense of humor. This allows for a very positive atmosphere and allows us to be closer. Several girls have a great impression of our assistant coach.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Sydney: I would love to go back to Whistler, B.C. in Canada during the summer to explore. I would definitely want to take my brother and parents with me.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 dollars and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, how would you spend it?
Sydney: I have spent a lot of time recently learning about mass incarceration and the work that the Equal Justice Initiative is doing to combat this issue. I would give this money to The Equal Justice Initiative nonprofit.
