A graduate of Moore High School, Susan Haizlip is the proud parent of a student-athlete at Southmoore High School.
Haizlip’s daughter, Hannah, is a swimmer on the Southmoore swim team and is involved in several other activities at school.
“My daughter Hannah is a swimmer and color/winter guard for Southmoore High School. She is a junior this year,” said Haizlip.
As a mother of a swimmer, Haizlip said she felt it was important to volunteer her time and help the team and the coaches when she can.
“I work as a volunteer for the swim team, organizing meet snacks and as a meet timer when needed,” she said. “I think just being able to show up for your kid and helping out with what is needed is important to them. The coaches don’t have a lot of time to fill in the blanks and I think that is where parent support is so helpful. There are many parents that step up to help with events, such as banquets and meet support.”
Southmoore High School has been great for the Haizlip family.
“Hannah has really enjoyed her time at Southmoore. Every student-athlete is given their moment and given a voice,” said Haizlip.
The need for parents to be involved and to help the athletic programs will always exist and Haizlip feels it is something every parent should do.
“I think just to show up for your kid and provide support in their interests makes a huge difference. The important part is that you are there to support, encourage and be their biggest cheerleader. Leave the coaching up to the coaches,” said Haizlip.
Away from school activities, the Haizlip family enjoys traveling, hiking, skiing, watching movies and playing cards.
