When a high school student-athlete plays a sport, they become more than just an athlete. They become a representative of their school and community. Jordan Morrison says that wearing that name across the front of his jersey is easy when he feels the support for him and his teammates.
“Being part of Southmoore is the best thing that has happened to me,” he said. “Our community is so supportive of all of us. Being at the top is a standard we try and hold together.”
A senior at Southmoore High School, Jordan plays midfield and outside back for the Sabercats’ soccer team. He began playing soccer at the age of five and has not stopped playing since.
Becoming the soccer player that he is today has taken a lot of work from Jordan, but he is quick to give credit to those that have helped him. “It has taken a lot of work and patience to be a great athlete,” he said. “But more importantly to be an even better leader. Learning to be a leader has made me the person I am today and I give all credit to my coaches for that. It’s truly about building the fundamentals and I feel like once you’ve done that everything else will fall into place.”
Along with his coaches, there are a few other people that Morrison says have made a big impact on his life. “My biggest role models are my high school coaches, Kit Stephenson and Steven Tam, my parents, and my teammates. They have never given up on me even during hard times, it made me realize that’s what family is and I’m very proud to be part of that.”
Playing soccer for as many years as he has, Jordan has racked up numerous awards. But he says that his favorite moment has nothing to do with winning a trophy or medal. “I’ve won many individual awards and scored many goals,” he stated. “But my favorite will have to go to my team helping a former teammate Austin Vidal score his first varsity goal in a senior night game.”
