Teamwork is a large component of being a successful team. The individuals can be physically ready to compete, but if they do not work together during competition, the chances of failure run high. Kyah Galindo says that she and her cheer team work hard to make sure they are in sync.
“In order to be a great cheer team, you have to be willing to put in the time and hard work,” she said. “You also have to be able to work together as a team. That is something that we do well.”
Galindo is a senior at Southmoore High School, where she is a side base on the cheer team. She is in her sixth year of cheer and says that her favorite memory so far has been a trip to nationals. “The highlight moment of my cheer career was performing at my last NCA Nationals,” she said. “My team worked hard all year and we hit our routine both days the best we ever had. It was really awesome.”
While she depends on her squad on the mat, there are other people that she leans on in everyday life. “My parents are my biggest influences,” she said. “They have done everything for me to get where I am. Also, They have been supportive through everything and have been super uplifting.”
As a student, Galindo says that her time at Southmoore has been great for her. “Southmoore has been the best four years of my life,” Kyah said. “I am so thankful for all the opportunities it has brought me and all of the mentors and friendships.”
Among all the teachers that Kyah has sat in class for, she says that one of her math teachers has been her favorite. “ Coach Braggs was my sophomore geometry teacher,” she said. “He taught me to not take things seriously and know the difference between having fun but maintaining a strong work ethic.”
Galindo serves as the treasurer of the Student Council and is also a member of the National Honor Society.
